Sport & Remedial Massage Therapy

What is Sport & Remedial Massage?

It is a very deep and occasionally painful treatment, but used in conjunction with mobilisation and muscle energy techniques (a type of stretching), it can be very effective in resolving many muscle and joint problems.

Sport & Remedial Massage uses general massage alongside specific methods of soft tissue release, including assisted stretching, strengthening exercises, neuromuscular and connective tissue techniques.

Deep tissue massage concentrates on areas of tension using deep kneading and stroking techniques, manipulation and stretching of the muscles and surrounding soft tissue, helping to oxygenate poorly circulated areas and allows the spine and joint to relax into alignment.

What are the benefits of Sport & Remedial Massage?

  • Resolution of minor soft tissue injuries
  • Injury prevention
  • Event preparation
  • Identification of micro trauma and imbalances
  • Improved circulation and posture
  • An effective and safe natural therapy
  • An individualised approach
  • Speed recovery from injury
  • Produces greater relaxation
  • Assisted stretching

Relaxing Swedish Deep Tissue Massage

What is Swedish massage?

Also known as “therapeutic massage” – Swedish massage is a range of techniques applied to the skin using oils, including effleurage (stretching and relaxing superficial muscles), petrissage (kneading and squeezing deeper muscles and tissues), friction and compression (rubbing and ‘holding’ the tissues to break down scar tissue and relax muscles), tapotement (rhythmical movements and tapping performed with the edge of the hand or heel of the palm to increase blood circulation) and vibration (rhythmical movements for releasing tension and boosting circulation).

Who would benefit from Swedish massage?

It has shown to be beneficial for joint stiffness and reducing pain.  It is also a wonderful way to just relax!
