Common Ailments

Osteopathy & irritable bowel syndrome

As a sufferer of IBS, you probably already know the pain, discomfort & symptoms of this common complaint.

Although not scientifically proven, some patients have found some relief following osteopathic treatment.  The gentle soft tissue techniques can often help relieve the pain associated with colon spasms and can help to treat the constipation, a common symptom with IBS.

As osteopathy is a holistic therapy, your osteopath may look at the spinal segments associated with nerve supply to the digestive tract and may also be able to treat any problems that may occur with the ‘dragging’ on other musculo-skeletal structures  secondary to constipation.

Asthma

Asthma, often more severe in children, can lead to other symptoms later in life due to the altered breathing mechanics and reliability on smaller structures not designed to take this extra workload.

Frequently, asthmatics use smaller accessory muscles for breathing and the diaphragm often ‘forgotten’ by the sub-conscious.

Osteopathy may often help improve rib and diaphragm mechanics, at the same time releasing tension in the overused ‘accessory’ muscles and helping improve posture and secondary symptoms such as headaches.

Sinusitis

Sinusitis is a common cause of facial pain headaches and dizziness.

As long as there is no underlying infection, only inflammation, an osteopath could use gentle soft tissue and mobilisation techniques to drain the superficial sinuses, giving relief from this often debilitating condition.

You may also be shown techniques to use at home to keep the sinuses ‘freely moving’ as possible.

Acupuncture & Common Ailments

Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing that has been practised for thousands of years in China and other Eastern Countries.  The principle aim of traditional acupuncture is to treat the whole person to restore the body’s natural equilibrium focusing on all aspects of wellbeing; physical, mental and emotional.

Needles are inserted into energy pathways called meridians which flow through the body to influence qi (the body’s own vital energy) with aim of stimulating the body’s own healing response to restore its natural balance.

It is suitable for all ages, including babies and children; it is a safe, effective and a holistic treatment which can be used alongside conventional western medicine.
